Easter Bunny & Tooth Fairy Found in U.S. Census Records
Was the Tooth Fairy an Italian Immigrant?
Upon careful review, it looks possible that the Tooth Fairy was indeed an Italian immigrant. The 1900 Census for the City of New York shows a T Fairy (living with Christmas Bill) in the Bronx. Mr. Fairy was a 24-year old Single White Male, born November 1875 in Italy. The census shows he had been in the U.S. for 2 years, having arrived in 1898. His occupation is listed as Rag Picker.
As of this writing, no passenger arrival could be found through the Port of New York or other ports. If his arrival was through the Port of New York, it would likely have been processed through the Barge Office since the original Ellis Island facilities were closed due to an 1897 fire.
Easter Bunny
Both the U.S. Federal Census for 1910 and the England Census for 1841 have an entry for Easter Bunny. The 1910 Census for Marion (Marion) South Carolina shows a 2-year old Easter Bunny living with parents John and Mary. The English Easter Bunny lived in Yorkshire, England and was a 15-year old in 1841, so clearly this was a different Easter Bunny.
